There are many possible connotations for the word "witch" but
the one relevant here is one who divines or knows the answers to questions.
In this case, the question is where to find songs about specific
subjects. When you are looking to dig a well you call a "water
witch" who uses a dowser to find water. (I've watched them at work.
They located the water pipe line outside our house, with 2 little sticks.)
